Most people like myself don’t pick up a Bible until life beats them up.
I know that it’s sad but very true that many don’t open God’s Word until they’re in trouble. Or when the terminal diagnosis comes, the relationship falls apart. When the addiction takes hold and won’t let go. Even when the consequences for our actions finally catch up to us.
It’s crazy to think that they hand you a Bible in prison and that’s the first that person may have seen it before.
But here’s the real question: why wait until things get bad to seek what can guide you now?
Is it pride? Is it distraction? Is it the illusion that we have more time? Sometimes we wait because everything seems “fine” and we don’t feel our need for God until life exposes how fragile we really are. I know this was definitely true for myself and many others.
The Word of God was never meant to be a last resort. It’s meant to be daily bread.
📖 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” – Psalm 119:105 (NKJV)
You don’t wait until it’s dark to buy a flashlight.
You prepare before the storm hits.
You build your foundation before the shaking begins.
And this is especially important for young people who weren’t raised in faith.
If no one taught you to read the Bible growing up, you may only hear about God when life hurts. When you’re lost. When you’re searching for meaning. When you hit rock bottom.
But you don’t have to wait for pain to introduce you to purpose.
You don’t have to wait for crisis to discover Christ.
If you’re reading this and are thinking about starting a faith journey before the pressure, before the mistakes start piling up, before the world hardens your heart God’s Word can change the entire direction of your life. It did just that for me at the age of 46, that’s 17,033 days of life not surrendered to Christ.
This isn’t about religion forced on you.
This is about wisdom available to you.
Don’t wait for a cell to find your Savior.
Don’t wait for rock bottom to find the Rock.
Be proactive.
Open the Word while life is calm, not just when it’s chaotic.
Because when trouble does come and trust me it will you won’t be searching for hope.
You’ll already be standing on it.
