“But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow.” — Mark 4:38 NKJV
If you have been around me often one thing easily noticed is I wear a lot of faith shirts. One of my favorite shirts says Jesus took naps, be like Jesus. I personally do enjoy a good nap. That’s probably why this is one of my favorite little details in Scripture: Jesus was taking a nap.
In the middle of a storm. Waves crashing. Disciples panicking. And there He was—asleep on a pillow.
I relate to that more than I’d like to admit. I like naps. Not because I’m lazy, but because rest is a reminder that I’m not in control—and I don’t have to be. Jesus wasn’t sleeping because He didn’t care; He was sleeping because He trusted the Father completely. That’s the important truth!
The storm didn’t change who He was or where His confidence rested. And that speaks to me. When life got loud, chaotic, or overwhelming, my first instinct was too often to stress myself out. But Jesus showed me another way: rest in the midst of the storm.
Naps have become a small spiritual lesson for me. They remind me to pause, to trust, and to surrender what I can’t fix. If Jesus—fully God, fully man—valued rest, then maybe I don’t need to feel guilty for slowing down either.
So today, whether you’re facing a storm or just feeling worn out, remember this:
If Jesus could rest in the boat, you can rest in Him.
And yes… sometimes that includes a nap. 🙏😄
