‘Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, ‘
I believe it’s safe to say that most people know that life isn’t easy. No matter how much we think we are in control life will bring us many things. From being distracted easily, situations you never saw coming and sources of evil you never thought could exist in your own world. Trust me on this, the thought of just throwing in the towel is a very real solution for some.
I have chosen to live the rest of my life as a follower of Jesus Christ, which means to me I am no longer a spectator rather more like an athlete running the race of faith set forth by the Word of God. I need endurance from the Bible because I know the race won’t be easy so why should I carry heavy loads preventing me from running freely and limiting my endurance. Sin, grief, hurt and pain are just some of the things I toted around for a long time, and to a small extent I still harbor some today.
I liked this verse today and it seems fitting in nature due to the start of the summer Olympics. It tells me that “witnesses” are the believers that have gone before all of us and became a testament of faith by how they lived their lives. By laying aside the weight we are carrying we can avoid the many things that prevent us from contact with God as we run our race to His Kingdom in Heaven for eternity. I will keep moving forward with the race no matter how tough it gets because I am being guided each and every morning by God’s amazing grace and my faith in Him which is all I need to press on!
I would like to hear from my readers about how your own races are going? What is God doing for your life that is letting you run a clean effortless race to our Father in Heaven? Please leave a comment below!
